Catalogazione e regesto degli antichi testi in volgare nell'Archivio di Stato e nelle principali biblioteche conservative di Padova (secc. XIII-XIV)

The project aims to produce a census of practical documentation in the vernacular produced in Padua or written by Paduans between the 13th and 14th centuries, and currently preserved in the conservation institutions of Padua and neighbouring areas. Through field research, the examination of documents, and the selection of relevant materials, the project seeks to create a corpus to be digitised, which will then serve as the basis for further studies of the catalogued material.
Objectives
The project pursues two interdependent objectives:
- to undertake a research campaign in the archival holdings of Padua (specifically in the following institutions: the State Archive, the Civic Library, the Diocesan Historical Archive, the Ancient Seminary Library, the Antonian Library, and the Archive of the Veneranda Arca of Saint Anthony), subsequently extending the investigation to medieval holdings preserved in other cities (State Archives of Mantua, Rovigo, Ferrara, Bologna, Prato, and Perugia);
- to proceed with the digital reproduction of these documents in view of their subsequent transcription, selection, study, and publication.
Results in the field of DH
The research resulted in the cataloguing of 638 documents and the digitisation of more than one thousand folios. Further phases of the work were devoted to the construction of the data to be recorded for the documentary corpus, including:
- the description of practical documentation using a tabular schema;
- the digital reproduction of the selected documents;
- the archiving of these reproductions in folders identified by a unique string representing the archival shelfmark;
- the association of these identifiers with the corresponding descriptions, ensuring immediate retrieval of the correspondence between the description (recorded in the data-modelling table created for the project) and the folder containing the digital reproductions of the document (within the collection).
