Research
Drawing on their original research, the scholars affiliated with the History Section investigate and present a broad historical panorama, spanning from the Late Roman Empire (4th–5th centuries AD) to the present day, from a variety of perspectives.
Their research covers a wide range of fields, from medieval to contemporary history; from the history of religions, Christianity and the Churches to political, social and economic history; and also includes the history of education. It starts from the local context, exploring the history of the Patriarchate of Aquileia, and gradually broadens its scope to encompass Eastern Europe and international relations. The search for previously unpublished sources fosters numerous collaborations with local, national and international libraries, archives, and heritage and research institutions. This ongoing research continually leads to new discoveries and makes it possible to examine cross-cutting phenomena, such as settlement patterns and cultural developments. In doing so, it brings researchers into direct contact with disciplines taught by colleagues in other sections, including archaeology, numismatics, philology, literary history and sociology, fostering a close, ongoing and fruitful dialogue.
