Per una guida degli archivi d’impresa del Friuli Venezia Giulia

The primary aim of the project is to organize and initiate a census of the historical archives of Friulian enterprises. Documentary records of companies play a fundamental role in reconstructing the history of Friulian entrepreneurship and the socio-economic context in which it developed and continues to develop. The approach adopted considers not only the productive activity in the strict sense, but also the surrounding landscape and context, society, fashion, urban planning, and politics.

Through the data emerging from this multi-year survey, it will be possible to assess the current state, the scope, the quantity, and the quality of the historical documents available, preserved, and accessible in Friuli.

Objectives

  • Census of entrepreneurial realities: the identified sample, rather heterogeneous, includes around forty entities, ranging from the larger, more structured companies that have already initiated projects to enhance their documentary heritage, to medium or small enterprises that nonetheless made a significant contribution to the construction of the local economic fabric, but have generally paid less attention to document preservation.
  • Recovery and safeguarding of documentary evidence: both of companies that have ceased operations (to trace the last remaining paper records, having survived an inevitable fate of decay or abandonment) and of those still active (to recover their roots and highlight their distinctive features).
  • Identification of exemplary cases: enterprises that have long undertaken projects of high archival quality, from reorganization to enhancement of their heritage and the creation of museum spaces.
  • Initiation of an archival reassessment process: certainly challenging, but capable of bringing to life histories that until now have remained confined to private memory, preserved only in the recollections of employees and entrepreneurs.

Results in the field of DH

  • Development of a structured survey form: designed to systematically collect data concerning the company and its historical archive.
  • Creation of a working database (still experimental) based on the E-Dvara platform, which could serve as a starting point for the construction of a digital information corpus useful, in the future, for historical, economic, and socio-cultural analyses, and potentially integrable with other projects and tools in the Digital Humanities.
