La tradizione è custodire il fuoco, non adorare le ceneri

G. Mahler

I graduated in Pisa with a thesis on the indirect tradition of Virgil in which I analyzed the variations to the Virgilian text referable to the figure of the grammarian Marco Valerio Probo (supervisor Prof. GB Conte and co-rapporteur Prof. S. Mariotti) and then perfected it at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa from 1984 to 1987. Since 1988 I have been a speaker at numerous international conferences and have lectured at various Italian universities.
Since 1992 I have been teaching Language and Latin Literature at the University of Udine where I am currently full professor and I regularly hold courses in Latin Language and Literature in the Course of Studies in Humanities, of Latin Philology in the Interuniversity Master's Degree Course in Classics: Archaeology, History, Literatures, and internal courses at the Scuola Superiore. I am a member of the board of the Doctorate in Ancient Heritage Studies.

From 1995 until today I have participated with continuity, as coordinator or member of the local unit of Udine, in research groups funded by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (PRIN). My research interests focus on the poetry of the Augustan age, the Virgilian text and its transmission, ancient philology, the ancient Virgilian commentaries by Servius and Servius Danielinus. I also deal with Lucrezian poetry, scientific literature, mythography and ancient mythological poetry (especially the Metamorphoses of Ovid), by Seneca.
I am in charge of the local unit of the Réseau Poésie Augustéenne (Augustan Poetry Network) founded in 1998 which includes, in addition to Udine, other European universities (Florence, Rome La Sapienza, Scuola Normale Superiore, Lille 3, Cambridge, Oxford, Dublin, Geneva, Heidelberg, London King's College, Berlin) and I am a member of "Polymnia" (International Research Network about Mythographical Tradition from Antiquity to the Renaissance).

I have published papers (on Virgil, Servius, Ovid, Seneca) in specialized journals and monographs (Testo virgiliano e tradizione indiretta, "Virgilian text and indirect tradition", 1987; Servio e la poesia della scienza, "Servius and the poetry of science", 2011). I collaborate as an editorial secretary with Materiali e Discussioni per l’analisi dei testi classici, journal directed by Gian Biagio Conte, and I am part of the editorial committee of Lingue antiche e moderne, journal directed by Renato Oniga, I am a member of the scientific committee of Polymnia magazine. I work as a referee for numerous international specialized journals.

I was the Erasmus Studio and Erasmus Delegate for the Study Course in Classics and Delegate for Internationalization of the DIUM. I have realized and I coordinate the Erasmus agreements with the Universities of Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, Paris Sorbonne, Murcia.
I am a member of the Executive Council of the University of Latin Studies (CUSL) as the Secretary.
I am a scientific collaborator of the International Center on Multilingualism (CEIP).
