The project is situated within research on Wi-Fi–based indoor positioning techniques and focuses on fingerprinting using Channel State Information (CSI). In the literature, CSI is often described as a promising technology for the passive estimation of user location, potentially achieving very high accuracy, down to the millimetre level. However, such results are typically obtained under ideal, laboratory conditions. The project aims to bridge this gap by providing a realistic assessment of the effectiveness of CSI fingerprinting in real museum environments, which are characterized by structural constraints and dynamic variability.

Objectives

  • Analysis of CSI-based fingerprinting techniques proposed in the literature;
  • Evaluation of positioning accuracy in real museum contexts;
  • Study of the impact of environmental variability, visitor presence, and interference;
  • Assessment of the suitability of CSI fingerprinting for indoor tracking and navigation applications.

Results in the field of DH

  • Critical evaluation of CSI fingerprinting as a localization technology in cultural spaces;
  • Identification of limitations and conditions of applicability in complex museum environments;
  • Methodological contribution to the development of visitor tracking systems.
